As per usual, the equine-haven that was Appleby Horse Fair had Liz intoxicated from the moment she stepped out of the car. Surrounded by so many horses of so many varieties, she was in her element as she strode through the various mini-markets of horses, appraising each one as she passed them by, but rejected each for one reason or another.

She spent most of the day doing this, but her and Francis still ended up walking back towards the car empty-handed. They meandered slowly down the dirt path that ran parallel to the road - a path eroded by many years of hooves and hopeful buyers and sellers travelling to the fair.

They walked by several men leading horses, but Liz stopped as an immaculately clean Vanner stallion trotted past them, led by a haggard looking man in a dirty hat.

"'Scuse me miss." He grunted as Liz stood in the path of the horse. "Tryin' to get t'the fair to sell my 'orse before it closes. 'Scuse me miss."

"How much do you want for him?" She asked, making Francis stare at her in surprise. True, it was a very handsome horse, but she hadn't even looked at him properly yet.

The man seemed just as shocked. "I was goin't'ask about a grand for 'im. Would ya be willin' ta do that?"

"Let me look him over first." Liz said, and Francis sighed quietly to himself in relief.

Half an hour later and Liz shut the trailer doors on the stallion, grinning happily to herself.

"Do you even know where he's come from?" Francis asked her.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, he was brushed within an inch of his life to shiny perfection, while the seller looked like he'd just crawled out of a bin." Francis said shortly. "That just seems a little suspicious."

"You don't think he stole the poor thing then expected to sell it, do you?!" Liz snickered at him, rolling her eyes and climbing into the jeep.

"That's exactly what I think," Francis muttered, then climbed into the jeep as well.

"I'll get Tom to check him for microchips when we get back. You can check every inch of him for brands if you really want to." Liz sighed, then pulled out of the carpark. "If there's nothing there, relax. If there is, we contact the owner, and it's £1000 to a good home, alright?"

Francis frowned as he tried to think of a rebuttal, then conceded defeat. "Fine."
